Lilo chatter

As Lilo begins to talk more and more, some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth is really quite funny. She's communicating pretty well these days - unfortunately a lot of it is in a special "Lilo-ese" that, while we've gotten better at understanding, would cause most people to shake their heads.

Some of her favourite phrases:

“Watch, mama, watch” – before she does something neat – like jump off the 3rd step.
“Mommy, air var you?” (where are you?) – even if I’m in the room with her
“Mommy, whatchu doing?” – always wanting to know what you are doing
“Around and around” – when she looks at the ceiling fan, or twirls in her dresses.
“Up high” – means anything higher than she is right now – a plane in the sky, something on the book shelf, or even something upstairs like her blankets in her bedroom. She also uses this when she wants to be picked up.
“mmm, broccoli, nummy broccoli. Mmm, onions, nummy onions” – when she is looking at our garden, I guess all the vegetables are yummy. And no she doesn’t eat onions.
“Tip toe, tip toe” – as she tip toes down the hall when Isla is still sleeping. Of course her whisper of tip toe is pretty loud.
“Giggie” – is what she calls her blankies. She can say blanket but for some reason wants to call them giggies.
“I don know” (I don’t know) – and she puts her hands in the air.
“Soccer ball” – This doesn't refer just to the ball, but tha actual sport - just like how every other sport has a "-ball" at the end - basketball, baseball, football.
“I did it” she is very proud of herself.
"Suse me" - means excuse me - which she says after she burps.
“dank you” I’m proud to say we have a very polite little girl.

The last of our visitors

We had a great visit with Joe, Kathy and Hudson. Lilo and Hudson had a fun time playing together - very cute to see. Hudson was a little timid at first but came out of his shell by the end of the trip and was chasing Lilo around.
They got here on Wednesday afternoon so we spent it in the backyard.
On Thursday we went to the park in our neighborhood and big naps for all of us.
Then we went to the zoo on Friday which was a lot of fun. We saw a lot of neat animals and the kids loved it. Then we came home for naptime and Kathy and I ran out to do some shopping - Ikea and H&M since they don’t have these stores in Winnipeg. We got a few neat sand toys for the kids and a few things for their rooms at Ikea.
Then that evening other friends came over with their 2 year old and we had a BBQ. It was cute to see the 3 of them dancing and jumping in the back yard. On Saturday we went to the Distillery district to check out a festival they were having. It’s an old distillery that they have transformed into galleries, restaurants and shops in the original buildings. It’s really neat to walk along the old brick roads and look around. This weekend they also had a stage with bands and taste of Toronto food, where they had small dishes from some of Toronto’s best restaurants. So we stopped there for lunch and had a great sampling of food, a Bison burger, crab falafel, spicy chicken Panini and a few others – all very tasty.
Then we came home for a nap and then off to the park again. This time it was warmer so I let Lilo run through the fountain. She had a blast and got very wet. Hudson was so cute – wanting to run around but not wanting to get wet, so he ran on the sides and laughed at Lilo, saying, “Lilo all wet”
Since the afternoon naps were too short the evening was short for the kids too. The rest of us had a mellow night of pizza and tv since it was an early morning today for them.
And Isla was around too – she was sleeping a lot and very chill, such a good baby.
We had a great visit – it was lots of fun to see the 2 cousins playing together and we hope we can have them see each more often.

Batteries dying and other new things

Isla loves her swing and will sleep for hours in it which is why the batteries are dying. It's on high right now but barely moving and she's starting to fuss. I know I should be having her sleep in her crib but the swing works and it's down where I am.

Lilo is starting to ask questions all the time - her favorites are, "what you doing?" and " What's that, mama?" and these questions are repeated at least 3 times in a row before you even have a chance to answer.

Rob is having fun in the garden - as he said, "Never has a man spent so much time caring for a vegetable, sorry fruit, he hates" in reference to the tomatoes.

I'm just trying to clean the house for the next vistor. We've been a full house. Since Isla has been born we've had so many people come by - Lilo is starting to think someone else should be here all the time and is asking for the visitors who have left.
My parents stayed for awhile, then our friend Sarah from Halifax stayed for a few days. This weekend Gramma is coming and then next week Joe, Kathy and Hudson. It's been nice to have extra hands but it's sure making the time fly by. It's going to be July before you know it.

6 weeks already

So Isla is 6 weeks old already. The time has sure flown by and I've been meaning to post for the past 2 weeks to add her 1 month stats.
So at her 1 month appointment she was 9lbs 8 oz and 22" long - she's growing so big. She's not drowning in her sleepers anymore and they actually fit - but I'm not looking forward to the day that's coming where she out grows all her little clothes.
Other new things are smiles - this morning was a smiley day and I caught a few of them on film. She is getting more alert and focuses on things so much more. And we tried a bottle the other day and she took it. She didn't love it and wasn't latching very well so she swallowed a bunch of air but I'm sure with pratice she'll get it.

Lilo is doing really good. She's getting cuter everyday. She loves her sandbox and bubble baths.

We've planted a vegetable garden in our backyard. If it all grows we will not have to buy any vegetables this summer. We have way too many plant in that space so we'll see what survives.
We'll post photos of it's development and hopefully some good looking veggies.

And just the Jet being cute, sleeping on Lilo's big stuffed dog.

Update

We just had a great visit with Pappa and Oma (my parents). It sure was nice to have an extra set of arms to hold Isla and Lilo had a blast playing with both of them.

Isla went for her 2 weeks appointment last week - she is 8lbs 6 oz already so she's growing nice but is still so tiny. It's been neat to see her getting more alert each day and enjoying kicking time.
Lilo has been having fun helping Daddy in the backyard. They built a sandbox the other weekend and have been digging up dirt in the back. Lilo is a great helper.

She also helped me make cookies - you have to lick the spoon.

My girls

We are all doing well. Isla is a great baby, she sleeps fairly well, feeds well and well doesn't really cry. It's kinda weird and we're sure it won't last, but we're enjoying it while it does.

Lilo has also been great, she's been a real cutie. She asks where the baby is every morning and loves to give her hugs. She's been helping out getting diapers and blankets for Isla and very proud of herself when she does.

Kid 2.0 Is Now Here!

Kid 2.0 arrived this morning - Isla Laurel Emerson was born at 10:09am on April 18, 2008. She came in a hurry, after only a few short hours of labour and once again the delivery progressed too quickly for Vone to opt for the comfort of an epidural. After a little initial excitement - Isla was slow to take her first breathes thanks to being delivered with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, both Vone and our new baby are doing great now. Isla weighed in at 7 lbs. 1 ounce, exactly the same as her big sister Lilo - fitting perhaps, since they were both born on the 18th of the month. If all goes as planned at the hospital, they should be home tomorrow morning. And Oh ya... it's pronounced EYE-la. :-)
