Happy Halloween

We're all excited to go trick or treating tonight and we have lucked in to nice weather. It was beautiful out today as we walked to the library and the park.
This week I've been busy sewing up our costumes, we're going to the Jimmoween party tomorrow night - so the costumes stay a secret till then.

In between sewing Lilo and I have been creating halloween decorations. She is loving crafting. We made pumpkins, spider webs, and ghosts for the front window.

And to keep her busy yesterday she made a beautifully decorated crown.
Right now her favorite tv show is Mister Maker. It's a british guy that does crafts. It's neat to watch and get ideas, most things are a little advanced for her but we can adapt. So I've been buying pompoms and pipecleaners from the dollar store and saving egg cartons and stuff. I know, more junk.

I'm not sure if she just has the artsy jean or if I'm just doing it with her so she's enjoying it. Either way it's fun.

Lilo took this picture - not bad, huh? She also took the first picture of the cats.

The Girls are growing up

Last Saturday little Lilo turned 3. She had a dress up themed birthday party with her friends. Her dress up box is now full thanks to all her friends and family. She got a hula, vet, nurse, construction worker, princess outfits plus some boxing gloves, clown wig and nose and butterfly wings. Lilo has been having fun over the past week trying all the different things on and playing pretend.

.

The party was fun and hectic as any 3 year old party is. She had 3 friends there so it wasn't that big - and parents. So some dress up was done but it was a lot of running around and my craft project didn't get done. I guess they are still too young, I'll save it for a rainy day. It was to decorate their own crowns with jewels and pompomsWe had spaghetti and meatballs for dinner which all the kids except Lilo ate up. She's not the greatest eater at the best of times, let alone when there's a party going on. Anyways that saved room for cake and I must say I'm pretty proud of the cake.

So after a long afternoon we put all the kids to bed and the parents had their spaghetti, watched some SNL and played some Wii. It ended up being a fun night.
And Lilo would like to thank everyone for the great gifts and cards. We have been playing who's this card from everyday at lunch this week.
Last Saturday was also Isla's 1/2 year birthday - yep, she's already 6 months old.
I took the girls for their doctors appointments. Isla is weighing in at a whopping 18lbs 3oz and is 26" long - that puts her in the 90% percentile for weight and 50% for length. So she's a little stocky, good thing she's cute and has that killer smile. Since she obviously has a different body type than Lilo I will stop comparing their weights as I don't want to give Isla a complex :)
I was actually suprized at her length since she is outgrowing many clothes in the length - not the width but babies move so much it's hard to get accurate read on length.
She also got 2 shots in her legs, she took the first one problem but the 2nd one must of hurt, poor girl.
Isla is growing up - she's no longer the little baby that just lies there. She's sitting up and playing, which makes her look so grown up. She's also rollling a lot so get half way across the room - time to make sure Lilo picks up all her toys. She's reaching and grabbing at everything - she knocked my beer over at Lilo's party when I wasn't looking. This week she tried sweet potato and didn't mind it. She still hasn't really got the concept of openning her mouth but if I sneak it in she seems to sort of like it :) She's getting better at it, we'll try avacados next.

Lilo also had her 3 year doctors appointment. She's 32lbs and 38" tall - which puts her in the 70% percentile for weight and 75% for height. I was also suprized that her weight puts her in the 70% since she's so thin and her pants can be so loose especially with no diaper on. Yep, we are going full force in the potty training. This week I decided that no more diapers, except when sleeping and if we go out - I'm not ready for dealing with accidents outside the house. We did a short trip to the store and park on Monday and well I threw out those panties, I didn't want to bring those home. So it has been going ok, we still have some accidents but otherwise she's going in the potty. The one thing is she hasn't been going herself but just going when I bring her, which is every hour. So we still have to work on that - but it will come. She seems used to no wearing diapers so that's a start.
I forgot to mention what we got Lilo for her birthday - a camera. Well actually we got a new camera for the family but with Lilo in mind. It's a new Olympus one that can be dropped from 10 feet and is waterproof so she can't break it. She loves taking pictures and actually can take some pretty good ones. It's fun to see what she thinks is picture worthy - the cats, her stuffed animals, Isla, Mommy and Daddy. I've actually gotten her to take pictures of Isla and I when Rob's not home.
We were looking at the kids camera but the quality of the pictures it takes and screen quality are so poor it wasn't worth it. We might have a budding photographer on our hands so we want to encourage it.
Pictures to come shortly - I just need to take them of fthe new camera :) and sorry for any typing errors, I've been writing this with 2 kids climbing on and off me.

The week with the girls

Rob just got back yesterday - he caught an earlier flight so he was home in the afternoon which was nice.
So even though this week the weather was great we stayed inside a lot - poor Lilo was sick. I'm not really sure what it was but she had a good fever on Wednesday and a cold sore in her mouth so it made her sleepy and not wanting to eat. So she was basically on the all milk diet which I'm sure she wishes she could be on all the time - my little milk-holic. I hate when she's sick and Rob's away. I'm not the mom that rushes her to the doctors over every little thing but sometime you like to talk to someone to make sure you're right - so I called Tel-a-Health and they were great. I gave them the details of her condition - her fever got to 103.7, I was reading that anything under 104 is nothing to worry about but since she was close I thought I'd call. They basically told me to keep an eye on her and if the fever lasts more than 72 hours then take her in but the virus will run it's corse and the fever is good since it's fighting off the virus. The next day the fever was down but she still didn't want to eat much - her mouth hurt.
So on Friday she was feeling better and we were all tired of being inside so we went to a pumpkin patch. This farm near by does this whole family fun park thing and it was a lot of fun. The weather was beautiful and sunny and Lilo was glad to be able to run around. Sorry no pictures - Rob had the camera with him.
So after jumping on the bouncy castle, playing in the giant sandbox area, climbing the tree house, the rope spider web, going through the corn maze and watching the animated chicken show, we picked 3 small pumpkins so I could make pie.

We're off this morning to Kingston for the weekend - the drive should be beautiful with all the changing leaves.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone :)

More teeth

The past few weeks have flown by again.
Isla is growing up so fast. She's so active and grabs at everything. She starting to sit up on her own but gets excited and hurls herself backwards so she can't be trusted to sit on her own yet :) She still loves to lie on her back and play and rolls over lots. She's also loving her jolly jumper.

And as the title indicates Isla got her 3rd tooth the other day and today the 4th has cut through. So far no biting - let's hope it stays that way as we're still successfully breastfeeding. Oh and last week we started on rice cereal. She wasn't sure what to think of it the first time but seems to be enjoying it but gets distracted easily especially if Lilo is near by. I thought I would try her on cereal in hopes that it would fill her up a bit and allow her to sleep better at night - so far it hasn't done anything, she's still up every 2-3 hours at night, 4 if I'm lucky.
Lilo is doing good too. We have been having fun with old boxes, we made a house and a robot the other week (we decorated it more later but I didn't take another photo). She has a good imagination, it's funny to see what she comes up with. She also has been loving colouring and painting.
We're enjoying looking at the leaves change colours and today I showed her that the leaves on the ground make a cool crunchy sound when you walk on them - I love that sound.
I've been keeping busy - trying to keep sewing and crafting and getting a little nap in here and there. The good thing is that Lilo and Isla's nap have been overlapping a bit so I can get some stuff done.
Rob just left tonight for a conference in Dallas 4 days - so it's girls week and my goal is to get Isla to sleep longer.
