More updates

Isla and Lilo at 9 months

So I'm back to work in a week and Rob's paternity leave starts in a week. Time sure has flown by. I'm going into the office tomorrow to meet someone about what job I'm going back to. I'll let you know the details once I know. So about the girls. Isla just went in for her 9 month check up. She's 20.4 lbs and 28" tall. She's still bigger than Lilo but looks like she might be leveling off :) She's really moving now too. Standing holding on all the time now, and creeping along the couch. She's also walking while holding on to our hands. Lilo and her are having fun playing together - they like to fight over Lilo's yellow chair. Not sure if Isla really wants it or just wants Lilo to play with her over it. Since today was a really nice day we decided to go to the zoo. It was nice to get out since last week I didn't leave the house - it was so cold and we had no where we needed to go. The zoo was fun, but need some extra muscle to push that stroller along the snowy paths. There were some animals outside and we checked out some of the indoor pavillons too.

The last couple of weeks we have kept busy crafting and baking - thanks Chris for the cookbook and baking set, Lilo loves it. And we've had a few dress up/ photo days.

The other week while I was checking out some of the crafty blogs I like - Lilo hopped on my lap to help me. She saw one thing on the site that she liked and asked if we could make. I said we would need to ask Daddy. So I forgot about it and then 2 nights ago she asked if we could make a swing - I said ask Dad. So she went down stairs so we could show him this link. Well how could a daddy say no to such a cute 3 year old when she asked for a fing (swing). So off to home depot we went and an hour later she had her swing.
Oh and Lilo's old baby swing that we had in the backyard at our old place fits also - so Isla isn't left out.

The girls

Here's an update on the girls.

Isla is almost 9 months old already - where has the time gone? She is crawling now - real crawling and she's fast. She's able to climb stairs - well one stair. At Janet's they have one room in the front which is a step below and Isla figured out how to get up it and was very proud of herself. So we will be putting gates up this week. She has also learned to pull herself up and now all she wants to do is stand. So far she's got the landing pretty good when she falls so no injures yet.
She also is babbling a lot - got the mamamama down which is so cute. Not sure if she knows that's me or not but it's still cute. It's neat since Lilo got the dada sound first and took her awhile to say mama.

Lilo is still growing like a weed. All of a sudden we realize that she can reach some light switches and her pants are getting short. So I just measured her and she's grown 4 1/2" this year. I don't know what the average height growth is but that seems like a lot. I just looked online and found a couple of places where they say that 2-3" is normal. I also found this site that gave you a formula to find out how tall your child will be - there is 2 ways to figure this out - one way Lilo will be 6'6" tall and the other she will be 5'6", a bit of a difference. My guess is that she will be somewhere in between.
The other big news with Lilo is that she's potty trained - yay. It took awhile but she's got it down so no more accidents, well not in awhile - just one while we were out once she doesn't like going on a big toliet.
Lilo also has this cold that's not going away - poor girl goes to bed with a deep cough. We're going to see the doctor on Monday to see if we can get it cleared up.
The 1st picture is of Lilo rocking out to the Rock Band game that Drew got for Christmas. The mic wasn't hooked up but she didn't notice - not sure where she got the moves from but she was loving it.
The other Lilo has monkey's hanging in her hair which she thought was very funny.

Rob has 3 weeks until he starts his paternity leave, which means I have 3 weeks until I start back to work. I still don't know what job I'm going to be going back to - hopefully next week I'll hear.

The holidays are finally over

We had a great holiday season but like everyone it was busy.

We started on Christmas Eve driving out to Rob's sister's place in Huntsville which is about 2 hours north of the city. We left a little later than planned since we (Rob) had to shovel us out. The weather for the drive up wasn't bad so that was good.

That evening the kids got to open one present which was new pjs and then they put out their stockings along with milk and cookies for Santa. Lilo has been excited for the past few weeks that Santa was coming - I was just hoping she wasn't going to be disappointed that he wasn't actually there in the morning - but I guess all the presents made up for it.

The next morning was filled with excitement as we opened part of the gifts. We had a take a breakfast break part way through since there were so many presents. And we needed to get the turkey in and a couple naps. So we started up again in the afternoon for round 2. Everyone of course was nicely spoiled.

From Santa Lilo got a big teddy bear (which is what she was asking for) and an easel and Isla got a ball popper toy. They got a bunch of clothes, stuffed animals, books, puzzles and playdough. Almost all were played with right away. Isla's favorite thing was the paper - she loves to eat paper. So we had to make sure she wasn't eating too much of it.

On boxing day we bundled up and went tubing. There is a tubing hill in Huntsville and it was so much fun. Lilo had a blast, even though she was a little under the weather she still enjoyed it. And all of us did too. It was a perfect day for it and great to get outside and enjoy winter.

The following day, Rob and I left the girls and went into the city for a stag and stagette. The fog that day was horrible but we made it in one piece. Both us of had a great time and enjoyed our night away. The next day we drove back up to pick up the girls and this time it was the winds that were horrible. They were so bad that Janet had lost the power that afternoon and didn't get it back for another 2 days.
So back finally we were all back in Toronto on the Monday and just relaxed that day and tried to re-group.

For New Year's we went to a friends place for a Top Chef appetizers competition. It was a lot of fun. Everyone was to come up with their best appetizers which we presented 2 at a time and everyone judged. We had lots of great food - too much of course since there were 10 of us and therefore 10 different appetizers. The winner was Kelly with deconstructed chicken Parmesan served in a martini glass with homemade marinara sauce.

Then to end the holiday season we went to Kingston on the weekend for a wedding. It was beautiful and lots of fun. Great way to end the holidays.

We are finally back in the city. Rob's back to work today and I'm trying to get the house organized and decorations down.
Hope everyone had a happy and healthy holiday season.
